Education & Spiritual Growth

Congregationalists traditionally have placed a high value on education -- a church of the mind as well as the soul. Here, more than 150 of our church members express their abiding interest in children by teaching Church School, mentoring confirmands and working with the youth program. These programs are guided by the Associate Minister and the Church School Coordinator.

Our current curriculum looks to Jesus and his teachings as the model for understanding God and learning how to treat our neighbors with love. Young people live their faith. They collect money for UNICEF, Walk for Hunger, assemble Christmas boxes for prisoners, earn money for the Heifer Project, build with Habitat for Humanity and join with the congregation to prepare food for Pine Street Inn. They learn that being Christian means being socially responsible.

"Apply your mind unto instruction, and your ear to the words of knowledge." Proverbs 23:12

Adults explore their faith through a continuing and varied series of prayer groups, Bible and book studies, Advent and Lenten courses, discipleship groups, communion breakfasts and retreats. Led by our clergy or by congregational members, these opportunities provide for spiritual enrichment and growth outside the Sunday service. Plus, there are lots of opportunities for fellowship including such events as dinners, picnics and skating parties.
